Dakota Wesleyan Takes Rematch From ACU

Phoenix, Ariz. – Dakota Wesleyan University (9-7) won for the second time in three days at Arizona Christian University (4-11, 0-2 A.I.I.), prevailing 93-68 in Monday, Dec. 19 non- conference women's basketball action at Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the ACU campus. 

Coached by Jerry Conner, ACU returns to action, Friday, Dec. 30, with a game against Anderson University from Indiana (NCAA Division III) in Fultz Memorial Gymnasium at 7 p.m. 

ACU fared better Monday afternoon against the Tigers than it did last Saturday when the final score was 116-60. ACU trailed by just 12 at halftime, 49-37, rather than by 28, and Dakota Wesleyan's widest advantage of Monday's game was 27 points, rather than the three 60-point leads it enjoyed Saturday. ACU shot .385 from the field (25-65), 12 percent better than its .265 shooting on Saturday (25-65), and both sides gathered 51 rebounds on Monday, much different than the 62-42 rebound advantage enjoyed by Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday. Dakota Wesleyan, which shot .550 from the field last Saturday (44-80) shot just .379 from the field on Monday (33- 87) as ACU contested more shots, blocking five, and stole the ball nine times. 

However, ACU's turnover count increased from 29 to 39 on Monday, allowing DWU to stretch its biggest first half lead to 49-32 with 1:26 left before intermission after a 22-6 run, and its widest margin of the second half to 27 points, 88-61, with 5:20 left in the game after a 20-7 run. 

Senior guard Steffani Liscum (Tucson, Ariz./Marana H.S.), the leading scorer in both the NAIA Division II and the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Division I with a 23.1 point average, totaled 17 points, 10 in the second half, with two three-pointers, six rebounds, four assists and 3 steals, and freshman forward Sarah Beth Hock (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry H.S.), the December 17 Association of Independent Institutions Female Player of the Week, came off the ACU bench and recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 

12 rebounds, made eight of her 12 shots, passed off two assists, blocked three shots and stole the ball once. 

Junior guard Jessica Largo (Gallup, N.M./Rehoboth Christian H.S.) finished with seven points, one three-pointer, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and three steals. Senior guard Anne Munsil (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) added six points, four rebounds and two assists and one steals, and freshmen reserve forwards Stephanie Brimhall (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry H.S.) and Jamie Heath (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird H.S.) contributed six points, three rebounds and one steal and six points, four rebounds and two assists respectively. Senior guard Elizabeth Inscore (Dayville, Ore./Dayville H.S.) drilled two first-half three-pointers for six points. 

Six Tigers scored in double figures, with junior guard Elizabeth Lamb leading all scorers with 19 points and 3 three-pointers, six rebounds, three assists and four steals. Junior guard Brittany Hills added 13 points, one three-pointer, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, and sophomore guard Taylor Piper finished with 12 points, two rebounds, four assists and five steals. 

Dakota Wesleyan's reserves outscored ACU's substitutes, 42-32, with three Tiger reserves in double figures. Senior forward Brittany Pritchard contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, and freshman forward Katie Johnson just missed a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds and also blocked a shot and stole the ball three times from ACU. Freshman reserve guard Celeste Beck drilled a pair of three-pointers and totaled 10 points, three rebounds, four assists and a steal. The NAIA Division II national leader in three-point field goals, Amanda Hart, made three more for nine points and now has made 62 three-pointers in 16 DWU games.
