Mustangs Dash Past Firestorm

SANTA CLARITA, CA–The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team fell to the 16th ranked Master's College Mustangs on Thursday afternoon by a score of 90-57 in Santa Clarita, California.

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 4-14 overall and remain winless in GSAC play at 0-5. With the victory, the 16th ranked The Master's College Mustangs improve to 13-4 overall and 4-1in GSAC play.

In the first half, the Mustangs would take a 44-34 lead into the break. The Master's College shot 55% (19-for-34) from the field in the first half, but shot just 25% from beyond the three-point arc. The Firestorm shot 42% (12-for-28) in the first half from the field and shot an astounding 63% (7-for-11) from beyond the three-point arc in the first half. Neither team attempted many free-throws in the first half; the story was turnovers. ACU turned the ball over eight times in the first half, to just four turnovers for The Master's College.

In the second half, the Mustangs rolled from the opening tip on their way to a route of the Firestorm. The Master's College finished the game, shooting over 50% from the field, while ACU shot below 40% in the losing effort. One bright spot for the Firestorm, was that they shot an impressive 47% (11-for-23) from behind the three-point arc, while The Master's College shot only 22% (5-for-22)

In the loss, guard Sophia Anaya led the Firestorm in scoring with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Anaya shot 7-for-10 from beyond the three-point arc and had three rebounds and an assist in the contest.

The Firestorm women will next be in action this Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Santa Barbara to face the 17th ranked Westmont Warriors. The Firestorm will return home next Saturday January 24th; when William Jessup comes to Phoenix for a 1pm tip-off. The ACU men's basketball team will follow the women's game at 3pm.
