Phoenix, AZ- Despite a match high 14 kills off the arm of Junior Samantha McCants, Arizona Christian fell 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-12) to #1 Biola on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles (16-1, 8-1 GSAC) controlled the action in the opening set after building a 3-0 lead and did not look back.
In the second set, the Firestorm forced two errors from Biola to create a 2-0 edge. On the strength of three kills from McCants, ACU stayed in front building leads as large as 11-8 and then eventually 13-9. Holding a 16-12 lead, Arizona Christian woke a sleeping giant in Biola who responded with five straight points to take a 17-16 lead. A kill from McCants knotted the score at 17-17. But Biola grabbed the next tally on the scoreboard and held the lead for the remainder of the set and match.
For McCants, seven of her kills came in the second set.
Senior Kailaa Heaney and Sophomore Hailey Settle gave out 11 and 10 assists respectively.
Next action for the Firestorm will come on Monday when they host University of Great Falls in Fultz Gym at 6:30 pm. The visiting Argonauts will actually be playing four matches in two days on the Firestorm campus with two matches against ACU and a match against both Embry-Riddle (AZ) and St. Benedictine-Mesa.
