Big Lead Slips Away, Firestorm Win In Overtime

Henderson, NV- Up 12 at the break, Arizona Christian saw all of their lead slip away before beating Eastern Oregon 83-81 in overtime.  Junior Chris Sterling sparked the Firestorm with 23 points.

Senior Jackson Helms had his way in the first half as he delivered 16 points.  Helms was a perfect 4-4 from the field and converted 8-13 free throws.

At the break, ACU held a 34-22 edge.  Senior Brandon Newman was second on the team with seven first half points.

After scoring just one point in the first half, Sterling turned it up a notch in the second half as he poured in 16 points aided by converting three of four three point attempts.

Unfortunately, the Mountaineers (3-3) found their shooting in the locker room as well as they erased their 12 point deficit.  They made 57.6% of their shots from the field in the second half.  EOU outscored ACU 47-35 after the break.

In the overtime session, Sterling had just enough magic with his six points to help the Firestorm (5-0) push past the Mountaineers 14-12 in the extra five minutes and pull out the win.

Helms ended up with 20 points for the game.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will close out their trip to Nevada with a game against Montana State- Northern.  The game will be played at Liberty High School at 1:00 pm (MT)/ 12:00 pm (PT).
