Box Score PHOENIX, AZ --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team fell to the 20th ranked The Master's College Mustangs by a final of 4-1 at the Firestorm Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Firestorm fall to 3-7 on the season and 3-7 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 20th ranked The Master's College Mustangs fall to 11-2 overall and 8-2 in GSAC play.
It was a low scoring game that moved along at a brisk pace on Friday afternoon. Firestorm starter Tommy Lay (1-1), ran into some trouble early; surrendering two runs in the second inning and another run in the third inning to give the Mustangs an early 3-0 lead. The Mustangs added another run in the fifth inning on an RBI single to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
The Firestorm avoided the shutout, by getting on the board in the seventh inning. Kyle Robbins hit a sac-fly to left field that scored Max Sias; for ACU's lone run of the game.
The Firestorm had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, but could not get a run off closer Steve Karkenny. Steve Karkenny picked up his fifth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning or work that included two strikeouts. Jason Karkenny (3-1) picked up the victory, while allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Lay went the distance for the Firestorm in the loss, allowing all four runs on 13 hits with a strikeout and three walks in his nine innings of work.
The Firestorm conclude their three-game series with The Master's College Mustangs tomorrow (Saturday) with a doubleheader at 11am and 2pm at the Firestorm Baseball Field on the campus of Arizona Christian University.
