Box Score IRVINE, CA– The 7th ranked Arizona Christian Firestorm men's basketball team was upset on the road Saturday evening by 10th ranked Concordia University by a final of 88-79 in Irvine, California.
With the loss, the 7th ranked Firestorm fall to 21-6 overall and 10-3 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 10th ranked Concordia Eagles improve to 22-5 overall and 11-2 in GSAC play.
The first half was owned by Concordia on Saturday evening, as the Eagles outscored ACU 43-29. The Firestorm shot just 35% (10-for-28) from the field and shot 25% (3-for-12) from beyond the three-point arc. ACU attempted just nine free-throws in the first half, connecting on six of them. Concordia shot 45% (16-for-35) from the field and shot 50% (8-for-16) from beyond the three-point arc. The Eagles attempted just four free-throws in the first half, making three of them.
Arizona Christian shot their way back into the game in the second half, outscoring Concordia 50-45. The Firestorm shot 55% (15-for-27) from the floor and shot 50% (4-for-8) from beyond the three-point arc. ACU also attempted 18 free-throws in the second half, making 16 of them. Concordia kept their shooting stroke alive, shooting 46% (14-for-30) from the field in the second half and shot 45% (5-for-11) from beyond the three-point arc. The Eagles made 12 of their 17 free-throw attempts in the second half to seal the nine point victory over Arizona Christian.
In the loss, the Firestorm had three players score in double-figures; with Brandon Newman leading the way. Newman tallied 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting to go along with five rebounds and a pair of assists.
The Firestorm men return home on this week on February 19th, when Westmont College comes to town. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30pm; following the women's game.
