Box Score 2 PHOENIX, AZ --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team fell to the 20th ranked The Master's College Mustangs by finals of 9-1 and 6-2 in Saturday's conference doubleheader at the Firestorm Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Firestorm fall to 3-9 on the season and 3-9 in GSAC play; with their fifth consecutive loss. With the victories, the 20th ranked The Master's College Mustangs fall to 13-2 overall and 10-2 in GSAC play.
In game one, it was all Mustangs; as they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a half-inning of play. The Master's College went on to score another two runs in the third, fifth and eighth innings; as long as another lone run in the ninth inning to take the lopsided 9-1 victory in game one.
ACU's lone run came in the fourth inning, when AJ Arroyo scored on a wild pitch. The Firestorm got just six hits in game one, while making four errors defensively. Joshua Garcia (2-3) took the loss, going just 2.1 innings while allowing four runs; three earned on four hits with five walks and a strikeout.
Game two also went The Master's College way, but the Firestorm put up a fight. The deciding factor in the game, was the Mustangs four-run fifth inning, that propelled them to the 6-2 victory. ACU got their first run in the fourth inning on a sac-fly by Tanner Stokey to score AJ Arroyo. They scored again in the seventh inning when Jesse Poweziak singled in Anthony Balderama for the game's final run.
Cody Rose was the lone Firestorm player to record multiple hits in the game; finishing 2-for-3 at the plate. Brett Swartz (0-4) started and took the loss for ACU, going four innings while surrendering three runs; two earned on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
The Firestorm will have the week off, before hitting the road for California on Friday. ACU will travel to take on the Biola Eagles next Friday and Saturday. First pitch is set for 3pm Arizona time on Friday afternoon, with Saturday's games beginning at 12 noon and 3pm Arizona time.
