Firestorm and Biola Split

LA MIRADA, CA --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team split Saturday's doubleheader with the Biola Eagles on Saturday afternoon by finals of 8-0 and 0-2 in La Mirada, California.

The Firestorm are currently 4-11 on the season and 4-11 in GSAC play. After Saturday's games, the Biola Eagles sit at 6-12 overall and 4-11 in GSAC play.

In game one on Saturday, the Firestorm jumped out to an early lead at 3-0 after the second inning thanks to a pair of singles from Michael Dunnebecke and Tanner Stokey. ACU would go on to tack on two more runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth inning and two more runs in the eighth inning to take the 8-0 win.

ACU finished game one with 11 hits; Tanner Stokey, Zach Vogel, and Cody Rose all finished with a pair of hits in the game. Stokey finished with a team best four RBI's.

Firestorm starter Joel Klinkhammer (1-0), picked up the victory in his six innings of work; where he allowed just two hits, four walks and struckout five.

Game two was a pitcher's duel, as Biola and ACU combined for just eight hits. The Eagles got on the board in the third inning on a sac-fly to left field, to take the early 1-0 lead. Biola scored the game's final run in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice in the 2-0 defeat of the Firestorm.

 

Arizona Christian starter Brett Swartz (0-4) took the loss, tossing five innings while allowing a run on five hits with two strikeouts.

 

Arizona Christian returns home to Firestorm Field this coming weekend, when they host fellow GSAC member; William Jessup University on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 2pm, with Saturday's doubleheader set for 11am and 1pm.
