Firestorm Wrangle Warriors

PHOENIX, AZ– The 18th ranked Arizona Christian Firestorm men's basketball team defeated the William Jessup Warriors on Tuesday evening by a final of 61-41 in Rocklin, California.

With the victory, the 18th ranked Firestorm improve to 23-7 overall and 12-4 in GSAC play. With the loss, the William Jessup Warriors fall to 12-17 overall and 3-12 in GSAC play.

The first half went the Firestorm's way. ACU shot 48% (14-for-29) from the field in the first half on their way to a 31-23 halftime lead over William Jessup. The Firestorm shot 33% (3-for-9) from beyond the three-point arc and went 0-for-1 at the free-throw line. William Jessup shot 33% (8-for-24) from the field and shot just 14% (1-for-7) from beyond the three-point arc. The Warriors also attempted nine free-throws, making six of them.

In the second half, Arizona Christian shot the ball better and held William Jessup in check. The Firestorm outscored the Warriors 30-18 on their way to the 61-41 victory. ACU shot 45% (11-for24) from the field and shot just 22% (2-for-9) from beyond the three-point arc. The Firestorm attempted nine free-throws in the second half, converting on six of them. William Jessup had a tough time shooting the ball in the second half, shooting 25% (5-for-20) from the field and just 10% (1-for-10) from beyond the three-point arc. The Warriors also struggled at the charity stripe, shooting 43% (7-for-16).

In the victory, the Firestorm had 12 players score in the game; two of which scored in double-figures. Leading the way was Sharif Watson, with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting with a rebound, a block, and two steals.

Earlier in the day, the NAIA released their latest Division 1 Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll; with the Firestorm falling seven spots to #18 from #11 after their loss last week at home to the Westmont Warriors.

The Firestorm men will next be in action on March 5th at 7:30pm, when they host a GSAC Quarterfinal game inside of Fultz Memorial Gymnasium. The opponent has yet to be determined, but cost of admission for the quarterfinal game is $10 per person.
