Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team fell to the 21st ranked Westmont Warriors by a final of 11-3 on Friday afternoon at Russ Carr Field in Santa Barbara, California.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 8-16 on the season and drop to 8-14 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 21st ranked Westmont College Warriors improve to 20-7 overall and 14-6 in GSAC play.
The 21st ranked Warriors jumped on Firestorm starter Thomas Lay (3-3) early and often. Westmont struck for a run in the bottom of the second inning; which started a streak of five straight innings of scoring at least one run for the Warriors. Westmont tacked on two runs in the third inning and then singles runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Westmont did the Firestorm in for good, with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Warriors finished the game with 11 runs on 14 hits.
Arizona Christian scored three runs in the game on nine hits; while committing two errors. The Firestorm's first run was scored on a wild-pitch in the seventh inning, followed by another run in the eighth inning; thanks to a Westmont error.
Tate Erickson singled in Christopher Burks in the ninth inning for the third and final run of the game for the Firestorm. Erickson led all ACU hitters, by going 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and a walk.
Firestorm starter Thomas Lay took the loss, while going five innings where he allowed five runs; three earned on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.
The Firestorm will close out their three-game series with the Westmont Warriors on Saturday morning; with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11am. Game one is scheduled to go nine-innings, while game two is scheduled to go seven-innings.
