Win Two, Lose Three, Drop Match

Box Score

Rocklin, CA- On Saturday, Arizona Christian won the first two sets against William Jessup but could not close the deal as they lost the final three sets and fell 3-2 to the Warriors.  Senior Samantha McCants ended up with 14 kills and 13 digs.

Senior Brenna Bailey started the match with a kill but four ties and a lead change later saw the teams locked at 13-13.  A hitting error by WJU provided the opening for the Firestorm to take the lead for good in the set.

McCants pounded out six kills in the opener.

Set two featured eleven ties and eight lead changes that played out to a 20-20 tie.  Four straight points thanks to strong serving from Freshman Delaney Harris pushed ACU to set point. ACU held off a late charge by WJU as Senior Haley Worden delivered the set win with a kill.

Sophomore Toria Siemens went for four kills in the set.

However, the Warriors went wire-to-wire in the third set to get on the board.

Twelve ties and three lead changes saw the two sides wind up at 23-23 in the fourth set.  But a WJU kill and an ACU setting error gave William Jessup the set and forced a 2-2 overall tie.

Both teams grabbed shares of the lead in the fifth and final set.  ACU looked like they had set themselves up for the win as they moved ahead 13-8 needing to get to just 15.  Unfortunately, WJU responded with a 10-3 run to close out the match.

Bailey finished with 12 kills.  Siemens concluded with eight kills.  Junior Hailey Settle also doubled up with 16 assists and 11 digs.

Next week, the Firestorm will make their last trip of the season to California as they face off with Hope International on Friday.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
