Biola Controls Firestorm To Win Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Phoenix, AZ- After earning the win on Friday, Arizona Christian could not find the right formula to repeat that success as Biola swept ACU 5-2 and 11-1 on Saturday to win the series.  A home run off the bat of Senior AJ Arroyo was one of the few ACU bright spots on the day.

A couple of errors in game one- one in the third and one in the fourth- opened the door for the Eagles (12-16, 5-7 GSAC) to score four unearned runs.

Arroyo blasted his home run after Senior Jake Wakamatsu reached on a single ahead of him in the fourth to cut the ACU deficit in half making it a 4-2 game.

But Biola manufactured another run in the fifth and Arizona Christian could only muster two more base runners in the game- both walks- after the Arroyo shot.

Senior Tatum Hendrix- who moved up to pitch game one of the double header instead of his normal game two slot- pitched seven innings allowing just one earned run with seven strikeouts but still took the loss.  Senior Joshua Garcia worked two scoreless innings on the back end.

In the second game, an error set the table for the Eagles to score five unearned runs in the third capped by a three run home run.

The Firestorm (9-13, 6-9 GSAC) used an RBI single from Junior Hector Ortiz that drove home Senior Christopher Burks to inch closer in the third.

However, ACU would not find the scoreboard again and BU tacked on six more runs.

Senior Cooper Johnson (1-2) took the loss despite not allowing an earned run.

The Firestorm return to the diamond on Friday up in Santa Barbara against Westmont.  First pitch will be at 3:00 pm.
