Warriors Sweep Baseball Series From Firestorm

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Santa Barbara, CA- After being no hit on Friday, Arizona Christian did hit on Saturday and even held leads but Westmont was able to comeback in both games to sweep the Firestorm 6-4 and 11-4.  Senior Jake Wakamatsu was 5-7 on the day with two runs scored.  Junior Chance Randall and Senior AJ Arroyo both homered.

The Warriors (23-4, 13-2 GSAC) collected a run in the bottom of the first.

The Firestorm (9-16, 6-12 GSAC) broke through with their first runs in the series in the second when Junior Chance Randall hit a bomb to give ACU a 2-1 lead.

After Westmont scored two runs in the fifth, it was Arroyo's turn to drill a homer over the left field fence to move the Firestorm back in front to make it a 4-3 ACU game.

But the Warriors plated three runs in the seventh on three singles and three walks.

Senior Tatum Hendrix started the opener pitching five innings and allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out four.  Senior Joshua Garcia, Junior Chris Paulson, and Sophomore Wade Mason all pitched scoreless relief.  Sophomore Anthony Pins (0-1) was tagged with the three final runs and the loss.

Game two saw the Warriors score in the first and third.

Arizona Christian responded with three in the fourth on a rally started by a single off the bat of Senior Tate Erickson.  Junior Jacob Rodriguez took one for the team as he was hit by a pitch.  Wakamatsu singled home Erickson and Sophomore Michael Dunnebecke doubled into center to plate Rodriguez and Wakamatsu.

Unfortunately, the 3-2 ACU lead was short lived as Westmont outscored the Firestorm 9-1 over the last three innings including a pair of two run home runs over a three batter span in the sixth inning.

Junior Andrew Mirasty started and went three plus innings but was charged with four runs and the loss.  Juniors Garrett Day and Austin Bright gave up a combined seven runs sandwiched around Junior Van Woudenberg and Senior Cooper Johnson throwing scoreless relief.

Next week, also known as Spring Break for ACU, will see the Firestorm play a rare Wednesday/Thursday three game conference series at The Master's in Santa Clarita.  Due to Good Friday and Easter on Sunday the series beginning at 3:00 pm on Wednesday will be moved up to avoid those days.
