Box Score Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday afternoon, Arizona Christian volleyball grabbed a set win but fell 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-18) to Vanguard. Senior Haley Worden kept ACU in the match with 27 digs.
Junior Hailey Settle opened the match by dumping the ball on two for the first point of the afternoon. Two points later, the Lions (4-10, 2-0 GSAC) moved ahead before four points later the Firestorm (1-4, 0-2 GSAC) found themselves in front again. Back and forth the first set continued. Tied at 16, ACU forced a service error before Sophomore Toria Siemens put a kill down on the hardwood. ACU would stay in front for the rest of the set.
Siemens hit .600 with three kills and no errors in the opener.
A back and forth second set came down to a 19-19 tie. An attack error by VUSC gave ACU a 20-19 cushion. But a 4-0 run turned the set in Vanguard's favor.
Senior Samantha McCants was the high flyer for Arizona Christian with four kills in the second. Settle, Siemens, and Senior Brenna Bailey all had three kills in the set.
In the third, a kill from Siemens gave ACU a 9-7 edge. However, the next six points belonged to the Lions and they controlled the remainder of the third set.
Up 8-7 in the fourth, ACU saw another 6-0 run by Vanguard turn out to be their demise.
Bailey topped the Firestorm with 11 kills in the match. McCants and Siemens both added nine kills. Settle and Freshman Delaney Harris both gave out 17 assists. Worden recorded six digs in each of the first three sets before earning nine digs in the fourth to reach her 27 dig total.
On Friday, the Firestorm will head to Santa Barbara for a 7:00 pm match with Westmont.
