Firestorm Split Makeups

Box Score

Mesa, AZ- Finishing a game they started on Friday and then playing a complete game to make up for one of the Saturday rainouts, Arizona Christian and Benedictine-Mesa split 5-4 and 10-2.  Senior Joel Klinkhammer collected the win for ACU- pitching back-to-back innings four days apart.

After playing to a 4-4 tie heading to the bottom of the sixth before play was suspended due to rain on Friday at Firestorm, the Firestorm (2-1) and the Redhawks (1-2) picked up where they left on Tuesday under the lights of Gene Autry Park including both teams sending out their final pitchers from Friday.

ACU got exactly what they wanted to close out the suspended game.  Senior Chance Randall reached on an error by the left fielder.  Sophomore Trent Troncone pinch ran.  Senior Landon Teramoto laid down a bunt single and Junior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. lifted a sacrifice fly to left to plate the winning run.

Klinkhammer induced three popups with a single mixed in to seal the victory.

Unfortunately, ACU's cheering did not last long as Benedictine scored three runs in the first and a run in the second and never looked back in game two.  The Redhawks capped their win with a five spot in the seventh.

The Firestorm only managed two unearned runs- one scoring on a balk and the other scoring from second on a weird passed ball play.

On Thursday, Arizona Christian will host College of Idaho to begin a four game series.  First pitch at Firestorm Field is scheduled for 2:00 pm AT.
