Four Games, Two Locations, Firestorm 1-3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

Riverside, CA- Beginning with a double header at La Sierra followed by two games at Big League Dreams Park, Arizona Christian crammed four games into about ten and a half hours on Thursday.  Fatigue may have played a factor as they went 1-3 on the day.  Sophomore Taylor Babbitt hit .357 with two doubles in the four games.

Starting in Riverside at 12:00 pm, the Firestorm (4-4) and the Golden Eagles (6-5-1) were scoreless through three innings.  LSU plated a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.  ACU closed the gap to 3-2 in the sixth.  Babbitt delivered an RBI double before Junior Bridget Kruck collected an RBI single.

But the Firestorm would not get any closer.

In game two, Arizona Christian used three singles and three walks to plate four runs in the second.  Junior Cheyann Michael drove home two with a single into right center.

LSU countered with three runs in the bottom of the second and single runs in both the fourth and fifth.

With one out in the sixth, Kruck walked followed by a single from Senior Yvette Ortega (Junior Alyssa Rodriguez pinch ran).  Senior Sianna Gomez doubled to left to cash in both runs and give ACU a 6-5 lead.

Sophomore Anely Marcilla came on in relief to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the year.  Freshman Hilaria Stewart earned her first collegiate save after she pitched the final two innings.

The Firestorm quickly packed up and transition to Big League Dreams in West Covina to participate in the 2017 NAIA SoCal Classic hosted by Biola.

Unfortunately, ACU left their hitting in Riverside as they would only manage four hits and one run in their two games on the Dodger stadium replica field.  Oregon Tech beat Arizona Christian 13-0 in five innings before Southern Oregon defeated ACU 5-1.

The Firestorm were supposed to play two more games on Friday morning.  But the forecast of heavy rain has already declared the games on Friday rained out.  ACU will not stick around to attempt to fit in anymore games on Saturday or beyond as they will head home on Friday morning.

Now the next scheduled games for the Firestorm will be their GSAC opening twin bill against Menlo a week from Friday (2/24).  First pitch is set for 1:00 pm at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
