Box Score La Mirada, CA- ACU baseball played Biola close to begin their weekend series on Friday… that is until the Eagles exploded for eight runs in the eighth to pull away in the 13-4 game. Junior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. homered and Junior Michael Dunnebecke was 2-4 with a triple.
While the Firestorm (13-11, 4-7 GSAC) had just one runner in the first three innings (single by Junior Matt Mara), the Eagles (15-9, 5-5 GSAC) left four on in three innings including the bases loaded in the second. But headed into the fourth the game was still scoreless.
Senior Hector Ortiz singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Senior Harris Lyons to put the first run on the board. BU answered with two in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth, Senior Jose Pereyda walked and scored on Dunnebecke's triple to make it a 2-2 game. Biola countered again with two in the bottom of the fifth.
Lyons singled with one out in the sixth. Nunnally then stepped up and drilled his sixth home run of the season over the left center field fence for another tie- this time 4-4.
The Eagles cashed in an unearned run in the seventh for what turned out to be the game winning run. BUT… BU then sent 12 to the plate and put an eight spot on the scoreboard with the benefit of just two extra base hits. At one point, Firestorm pitching actually walked four straight batters.
