Firestorm Cannot Solve Stags

Box Score

Claremont, CA- Like 13 teams before them, Arizona Christian could not solve the undefeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's team.  Sophomore Enzo Douillac was the lone Firestorm to produce a win as ACU fell 8-1 to CMS.

Starting with doubles, ACU figured out they were in for a long afternoon when they could not even record a win in doubles- their best discipline as a team.  Court one was the closest match but Sophomore Alberto Lapiedra and Senior Seth Moore fell 8-6.

In singles, courts six, three, and four saw the Firestorm (11-8) win a combined four games as the Stags (14-0) rolled in straight sets.

On court one, Lapiedra fell 6-4 in set one and then 7-6 in a tie break second set.

Down 7-0 as a team, Douillac finally broke through with a 7-5 and 6-3 straight sets win.

Court five was the marathon match of the day.  CMS's Jake Berber won the first set 6-4.  Sophomore Scott Wheeler (pictured) answered back with an 8-6 tie break to win the second set 7-6.  With the team match long decided, Berber and Wheeler played a super tie break third set.  Berber edged Wheeler 10-6 in their abbreviated final set.

The Firestorm will return home only to head back to California for a tough weekend against NCAA Division II foes Azusa Pacific and Concordia (CA)- both formerly of the GSAC.  ACU will play Friday at Azusa Pacific with first serve set for 1:30 pm.
