Box Score Santa Clarita, CA- The first trip to the GSAC Tournament for Arizona Christian Women's Basketball ended in the first round as they fell 85-73 to host No. 19 The Master's on Friday night. Sophomore Courtney Christmas concluded her season with a 22 point, nine rebound effort.
The Mustangs (21-7) scored the first six points of the night and never looked back. A three pointer by Senior Courtney Leach and a few moments later a layup by Junior Suzie Castro-Larsen brought the Firestorm (14-14) within two points. But ACU would not get any closer.
At the half, the score favored TMU 36-25. Christmas and Junior Makayla Enders both scored eight points in the first 20 minutes.
Sophomore Jada Willingham (18 points) and Christmas both accounted for 14 second half points. Leach finished her career with a nine point game.
While the season comes to a close, the Firestorm can hold their heads high after a season of bests and firsts. Their 14 overall wins and eight wins in GSAC play are program highs. Fourteen wins is one more than last season. The 2016-17 season will forever be in the records as the first time they advanced to the GSAC tournament.
However, maybe the most impressive feat was the fact that ACU Women's Basketball featured the same five of Christmas, Leach, Willingham, Enders, and Castro-Larsen in the starting lineup for all 28 games. No injuries, coach's intuitions, or whatever. Starting the same five for 28 games would be hard to match at any level.
Nice season ACU Women's Basketball!
