Costa Mesa, CA- A day after winning 8-1 on the same field against a neutral opponent, Arizona Christian fell 8-1 to #21 Vanguard on Friday afternoon. 

The Lions (21-15, 13-6 GSAC) scored a run in the bottom of the first. 

The Firestorm (19-16, 10-11 GSAC) responded in the top of the second with a run for the tie.  Senior Harris Lyons singled to begin the inning.  Senior Jake Howard reached on fielder's choice that erased Lyons at second.  Junior Matt Mara singled to move Howard up to second.  A groundout moved both runners up 90 feet.  Then a balk brought home Howard to tie the score at 1-1.

However, the tie was short lived as four of the first five Vanguard hitters in the bottom of the second reached safely capped by a grand slam home run.  VUSC was in control the rest of the game as they tacked on single runs in three of their final six innings.

ACU had runners on base in every inning but were haunted by three double plays in the final five frames.

On Saturday, the two teams will play a double header with first pitch coming at 11:00 am.
