Box Score 3 Arizona Christian Baseball dropped the first game of their doubleheader with Benedictine University at Mesa 1-0 before responding in game two with a 1-0 victory on a cold and rainy Saturday at Firestorm Field. Junior Eric Schwalbe drove in the only run for the Firestorm on the day.
In game one, the Redhawks (1-2) were able to scratch across the first and only run of the game in the top of the first inning.
The Firestorm (2-1) offense struggled in game one collecting six hits, but only advancing one runner to second base. Senior Marco Castilla led the Firestorm at the plate going 2-for-4. Junior Robert Milacki took the loss on the mound throwing five innings allowing one run (unearned) on three hits while striking out seven.
After 14 scoreless innings of baseball, Arizona Christian was able to find some offense in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two of the doubleheader. With two outs, Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. doubled down the left field line. Sophomore Jordan Meier was brought in to pinch run for Nunnally. After two Redhawk walks issued to Senior Matt Mara and Senior Michael Dunnebecke, Schwalbe was brought in to pinch hit. Schwalbe worked a full count and earned a walk to score Meier and secure the second walk-off win in as many days for the Firestorm.
Nunnally, Mara, and Senior Kyle Robbins all collected one hit apiece in the contest.
Senior Dillon Eaves (1-0) went the distance on the mound for the Firestorm throwing seven innings of shutout baseball allowing three hits and striking out five while issuing one free pass.
Head Coach Bill Swift simply stated, "Eaves was great. The offense was cold."
The Firestorm will return to action on Thursday as they host the 4-Him Classic and open with Providence Christian College at 2:00 pm.
