Box Score Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday, No. 13 Hope International had the number of Arizona Christian as they shut down ACU 72-47. Senior Matt Willkomm scored a team high 13 points in his final home game.
Willkomm and HIU's Andrew Bournes exchanged baskets to begin the game. Willkomm nailed a jumper before Bournes hit a three. Willkomm answered with another jumper to grab back the lead. But Bournes dropped in another three to change the lead back to HIU's side.
The Royals (23-4, 9-3 GSAC) moved ahead 10-4 but Willkomm dropped in a three ball to bring the Firestorm (14-12, 2-10 GSAC) back within three. However, that was as close as ACU would get as HIU pulled away.
At halftime, the score was 39-21 in favor of Hope International. Senior Sam Finley topped ACU with nine points as ACU was held to 33.3% shooting.
In the second half, the Firestorm did not get any closer than the 16 point difference Junior Callum Lawson made the score with the first two points of the half.
Prior to the game, Willkomm and Finley along with fellow Seniors Andy Sessions, Gavin Bartlett, Patson Siame, and Omari Lewis were honored for their dedication to ACU basketball with Senior Day.
On Thursday, the Firestorm will start their final road trip of the season with a game at Menlo. Tip-off is set for 8:30 pm AT/ 7:30 pm PT.
