Box Score Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian baseball dropped an extra-inning contest to Ottawa (AZ) 11-10 on Tuesday.
The Spirit (4-11) started fast and plated two unearned runs in the top of the first inning. ACU answered in the bottom half of the second inning to tie the game and then took a 5-3 advantage after three innings of play. A six-run inning in the top of the fourth by the Spirit crushed the offensive momentum for the home team.
The Firestorm (7-10) found a grove in the box in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings plating five runs, but wasn't able to answer Ottawa's run in the top of the tenth inning suffering the 11-10 defeat.
Senior Dom Rodriguez brought excitement to the seventh inning as he homered over the left field fence to drive in two of his team high four RBI.
Rodriguez ended the day going 4-for-6 with a home run, double, four RBI, and one run scored. Junior Christian Maggi and Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. each collected a multi-hit performance with two hits apiece. Senior Michael Dunnebecke doubled, drove in one RBI, and scored. Nine different Firestorm players managed to score a run on the day with Sophomore Brent Smith leading the team with two.
Sophomore Cam Sharp got the start on the mound tossing 3.2 innings allowing nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits while striking out four. Juniors Jake Rivera and Steven Butts and Seniors Tony Pins and Austin Bright all saw action out of the bullpen. Bright took the loss falling to 0-1 on the year.
The Firestorm will return to action this weekend as they host GSAC foe, William Jessup, in a three-game series beginning on Friday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
