Box Score The Firestorm plated three runs in the fourth inning and held on to secure a 3-1 victory over the GSAC's top team William Jessup on Friday.
After 3.5 scoreless innings of play, ACU was able to put together a strong inning to pull in front. With two-outs Senior Dom Rodriguez drew a walk. Sophomore Cohen Heckethorn then singled through the left side moving Rodriguez to second base. Junior Nicholas McCormick recorded his second hit of the day driving a single through the right side scoring Rodriguez for the first run of the ball game. Sophomore Todd Furr followed suite in the next at-bat with a single to right center scoring Heckethorn and moving McCormick to third for the 2-0 advantage. The Firestorm (8-10, 3-7 GSAC) scored their final run of the game on a single to center field by Junior Christian Maggi, scoring McCormick, making the score 3-0.
The Warriors (17-5, 8-2 GSAC) scored their lone run of the contest in the seventh inning cutting the Firestorm lead to 3-1. Junior Robert Milacki pitched an outstanding game tossing 6.1 innings allowing one run (unearned). Milacki allowed three hits while walking two and striking out six to secure the win. Milacki is now 2-3 overall on the season.
Juniors Stephen Streltzoff and River Carbone pitched in relief. Streltzoff tossed 0.2 innings while Carbone tossed 2.0 innings to close the game. Carbone recorded his first save of the season.
McCormick led the Firestorm at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored, and driving in one RBI. Furr collected a multi-hit performance going 2-for-3 at the plate collecting one RBI. Rodriguez recorded a double in the contest while scoring one run.
The Firestorm and Warriors will continue the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader. First game of the day is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
