Box Score Rocklin, CA- In the season finale on Saturday, Senior Matt Willkomm delivered 31 points as Arizona Christian rolled 97-87 over William Jessup. Junior Callum Lawson recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior Patson Siame started the scoring before the Warriors (19-11, 5-9 GSAC) answered with seven of the next nine points for a 7-4 edge. Willkomm countered with his first three pointer of the afternoon for the 7-7 tie.
WJU moved ahead and built a 15-9 lead. But baskets from Siame, Freshman Isaiah Walton, and Junior Carter Wilson locked the game at 15-15. William Jessup hit two free throws for the 17-15 edge.
However, the next trip down the floor saw Willkomm drilled another three pointer and the Firestorm (15-13, 3-11 GSAC) grabbed the top side of the scoreboard for good with 12:46 to go in the first half. The Willkomm triple started a 16-5 run with Freshman Johannes Menzel hitting a three, Sophomore Lawrence Combs scoring two, and Senior Sam Finley knocking down two three points along the way. Menzel ended the run with a layup.
The 48-31 halftime score was the biggest lead enjoyed by ACU in the first half. Willkomm produced 15 first half points on 6-10 shooting.
With 13:20 left in the contest, Lawson was good from long distance as ACU enjoyed their largest lead at 26 points (63-37). Lawson poured in 19 second half points to reach his 26 for the day.
After attempting just two free throws in the first half, ACU converted 20 of 22 trips to the charity stripe in the second half. Willkomm was a perfect 10-10 at the line to help reach his season high of 31 points.
Finley and Wilson concluded the game with 10 points.
