Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday, Arizona Christian allowed 24 hits in a doubleheader to the Westmont Warriors as the Firestorm fell 12-5 and 8-5. Sophomore Todd Furr and Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. both homered.
In game one, the Firestorm (6-4, 1-2 GSAC) gave up 12 runs on 14 hits while committing three errors in a 12-5 loss. After three scoreless innings of baseball, the Warriors (7-1, 2-1 GSAC) plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning gaining an early advantage. The Firestorm answered in the bottom half of the inning scoring one run on Nunnally's solo home run to left field- his first of the season.
Arizona Christian continued to struggle as the Firestorm allowed eight more runs over the course of the contest. The Firestorm showed fight late in the game rallying for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but lost steam and fell the Warriors.
Nunnally led the Firestorm going 1-for-3 with a homer. Multiple Firestorm hitters reached base on base hits.
Junior Robert Milacki (0-2) took the loss on the mound tossing 4.0 innings allowing six runs on eight hits.
In game two action, Westmont scored first in third inning before plating five in the fourth inning defeating Arizona Christian 8-5. The Firestorm plated one run in the third and one more in the sixth before showing fight again in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Firestorm plated three runs to rally before falling short. Senior Matt Mara reached with two outs after doubling down the left field line and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Senior Michael Dunnebecke singled to third base plating Mara from third. Senior Kyle Robbins was able to score Dunnebecke leading to a double to left center field by Senior Dom Rodriguez driving in the last ACU run.
Robbins, Mara and Dunnebecke all recorded two hits apiece in the contest.
Senior Dillon Eaves (0-1) was charged with the loss after starting on the mound tossing 3.2 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits, walking one, and striking out four.
The Firestorm will return to action at home next Friday when they host Hope International. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
