Box Score 2 Surprise, AZ- Hitting the road for the first time under Head Coach Marcos Gil, Arizona Christian came home with the 8-2 and 9-4 sweep of Ottawa (AZ).  Sophomore Paige Church had a big day with a 6-8 performance that included a home run and three doubles.
The Firestorm (2-2) started rolling in the second inning of game one when Senior Bridget Kruck tripled home Junior Taylor Babbitt and Freshman Lauryn Nicander.
After the Spirit (1-5) countered with a run in the bottom of the second, Church sent her first home run of the season over the right field fence for a 3-1 lead.
In the fifth, Church doubled to cash in Senior Cheyann Michael- who had doubled herself- for a 4-2 edge.  An RBI single from Kruck and 2 RBI single from Senior Chelsea Havill increased the lead to 7-2 in the sixth.  ACU capped the scoring at 8-2 when Nicander doubled and came home on a single by Freshman Elsy Guzman.
Sophomore Tatumn Porras (1-1) went the distance allowing two runs to earn Coach Gil his first ACU win.
Game two featured the Firestorm scoring in groups of three.  Inning number one saw Havill single and Church double before scoring on a double off the bat of Junior Kylee Brown.  Freshman Shae Bushey delivered Brown home for a 3-0 lead.
OUAZ scored a run in the first and second.  But a single from Babbitt and double by Freshman Jennifer Vickman moved ACU ahead 6-2 and made sure the Firestorm would never trail on the day.
Back-to-back doubles by Nicander and Kruck tacked on three additional runs in the fifth.
Senior Ashlynn Preciado (1-0) allowed single runs in the sixth and seventh before shutting the door for the complete game win.
Coach Gil commented, "After being swept by College of Idaho on Monday, we sat down and revisited our long term goals for the season.  Our ladies responded defensively today with two complete games pitched by Porras and Preciado.  Offensively, we had great clutch hitting by Kruck, Havill, Babbitt, Brown, Nicander, Bushey, and Guzman.  Overall a wonder team effort."
The Firestorm will have nearly two weeks before playing again.  When February 15 does roll, Arizona Christian will face the challenge of hosting #5 Corban at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.  First pitch is set for 4:00 pm.
