Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- On Friday, Arizona Christian opened GSAC play by being swept by William Jessup. ACU could not solve WJU's Shelbi Graifman who pitched all 14 innings of the 4-1 and 7-1 wins for the Warriors. Junior Taylor Babbitt collected three hits including a double on the day.
In the opener, the Warriors (15-8, 2-0 GSAC) cashed in three runs on five straight hits in the second inning- all the action came with two outs.
The score remained 3-0 until the seventh when WJU added another run. The Firestorm (6-11, 0-2 GSAC) countered with a run on a weird fielder's choice play that scored Senior Ashlynn Preciado. But Arizona Christian would not get any closer.
Sophomore Hilaria Stewart fell to 2-2 with the complete game loss.
Game two saw William Jessup score the first seven runs of the contest- three of which were unearned thanks to errors from the ACU defense.
Senior Cheyann Michael started the bottom of the sixth with a single. Two batters later, Babbitt doubled into left center to put runners at second and third. Freshman Elsy Guzman followed with an RBI single to bring home Michael.
Preciado (3-5) took the loss.
On Saturday, the Firestorm will continue in GSAC play as they host Menlo at Shadow Mountain High School. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
