Box Score Phoenix, AZ- On Tuesday, Arizona Christian baseball dropped a mid-week contest versus visiting Ottawa (AZ) 11-3.
Arizona Christian fell behind early in the contest allowing two runs in the first and one run in the second to trail 3-0. The Firestorm (10-17) plated their first run in the contest in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Matt Mara led off the inning with a four pitch walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Mara was then moved to third on a ground out by Senior Michael Dunnebecke. Senior Marco Castilla was able to plate Mara on a ground out to second base recording an RBI.
ACU showed fight in the fifth inning plating two runs on three hits. Senior Max Sias doubled to left center for the first ACU baserunner in the inning. Senior Adam Wolfe would send Sias home on a double to right center in the next at-bat. Freshman Ethan Watt pinch-ran for Wolfe and later scored on a single by Mara to left field.
The Firestorm wouldn't be able to produce any more runs in the contest and fell to the Spirit (10-14) by a final score of 11-3.
Arizona Christian was led at the plate by Senior Dom Rodriguez. Rodriguez reached base four times going 2-for-3 with a walk and hit by pitch. Mara went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Sias ended the contest going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and run scored.
The Firestorm pitching staff received a lot of work as seven different players saw action on the mound. Senior Colton Wheeler (1-2) started on the bump going 2.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. Junior Eric Schwalbe, Sophomore Cam Sharp, Senior Austin Bright, Junior Baylor Giannini, Senior Tony Pins, and Junior Steven Butts saw action in the contest in relief.
ACU will return to action at home this weekend hosting No. 24 Vanguard in a three-game series. First pitch of game one is set for Friday at 3:00 pm at Firestorm Field.
