Softball Wins Day Cap At La Sierra

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Riverside, CA- After losing the first game 4-3 at La Sierra, Arizona Christian responded with a 9-3 win in game two on Friday afternoon.  Sophomore Tatum Porras had a big second game as she collected three RBI on 2-3 hitting with a double while earning the win in game two.

Game one started on a good note as the Firestorm (7-14) scored in the top of the first inning.  Junior Taylor Babbitt, batting leadoff for the first time this season, opened the game with a walk.  Junior Kylee Brown singled behind her.  A sacrifice bunt from Senior Chelsea Havill and sacrifice fly by Sophomore Paige Church plated Babbitt and moved Brown into scoring position.  An RBI single off the bat of Freshman Elsy Guzman drove in Brown to give ACU a 2-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles (9-14-1) responded with a run in the bottom of the first.  ACU moved ahead 3-1 after Senior Bridget Kruck scored on an RBI single from Babbitt in the top of the second.

But LSU countered with a three run bottom of the third to build a 4-3 advantage.  Neither team would score again as La Sierra held on to their slim lead.

Senior Ashlynn Preciado (3-7) was stuck with the loss.

LSU used another three run inning in the bottom of the first in game two to build a 3-0 lead.  However, Porras held them scoreless the rest of the contest.

In the top of the second, Church walked, Guzman singled, and Porras walked to load the bases.  Senior Cheyann Michael tripled down the right field line to cash in all three runners and knot the game at 3-3.

Church scored to break the tie in the third.

Brown doubled leading off the fifth and came home on RBI single from Guzman.  Guzman then came home on a single by Freshman Joy Mendez to increase the lead to 6-3.

ACU capped the scoring with three more in the top of the seventh highlighted by a double from Porras that delivered the final two runs.

Porras went the distance to improve to 2-4 on the year.

On Saturday, the Firestorm are scheduled to play two with Hope International at Biola University in La Mirada at 2:00 pm.  However, rain may change those plans and force a potential makeup on Sunday.
