ACU Baseball Swept by No. 24 Vanguard

Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday, the Arizona Christian University Baseball team dropped a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference games to #24 Vanguard University. ACU dropped game one 8-3 and lost game two 7-0.

In game one, the Firestorm and Lions were knotted up at one apiece after the second inning. From there, Vanguard plated one run in the third, five runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth.

ACU was able to plate two runs in the seventh on a two-run homerun over the left field fence by Senior Adam Wolfe. The Firestorm were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Sophomore Cohen Heckethorn paced Arizona Christian at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Wolfe went 1-for-5 with the homer, two RBI, and one run scored.  Sophomore Todd Furr went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Sophomore Trevor McGee started on the mound throwing 3.2 innings.  McGee allowed seven runs (two earned) on five hits.  Junior Stephen Streltzoff, Senior Tony Pins and Senior Austin Bright all saw action out of the bullpen. Pins tossed 3.0 innings allowing only one hit.

In game two, the Firestorm (10-20, 5-15 GSAC) were not able to produce any offense being held to only two hits in the game falling 7-0 to the Lions (17-16-1, 14-7 GSAC).

Senior Dom Rodriguez went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk.  Freshman Nash Gowin also ended the game going 1-for-2.

Senior Dillon Eaves started on mound tossing 2.0 innings allowing three runs on four hits.  Junior Steven Butts and Junior River Carbone saw action in relief.

The Firestorm will return to action on Tuesday for a non-conference game at Ottawa (AZ).  First pitch at Surprise Stadium is set for 6:00 pm.
