Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ- Down to their last out in game one, Arizona Christian plated five runs in the bottom of the seventh highlighted by a walk-off grand slam by Sophomore Paige Church to win game one 8-6 over #5 Vanguard on Saturday. The Lions countered with an 11-0 five inning win in game two.
The Lions (33-4, 5-2 GSAC) came out ready to go as they scored two runs in both the first and second innings.
In the bottom of the third, Junior Kylee Brown hit a two run home run to center to get the Firestorm (9-16, 2-6 GSAC) on the board.
The teams exchanged single runs to make the score 5-3 headed to the seventh.
Vanguard extended the lead to 6-3 in the top of the inning.
But Arizona Christian was not done. Senior Bridget Kruck bounced a single through the left side sandwiched between two outs to give ACU a base runner in scoring position with one out to go. Junior Taylor Babbitt singled through the right side to bring home Kruck. Brown walked before Senior Chelsea Havill singled to shortstop to load the bases. Church then climbed in and delivered the walk-off grand slam over the left center fence.
Senior Ashlynn Preciado started the game but was unable to get an out. Sophomore Hilaria Stewart (4-3) threw seven innings of relief to earn the victory.
Unfortunately, the Lions showed why they moved up to number five in the latest NAIA poll as they one hit the Firestorm in game two on their way to a 11-0 win.
Preciado (3-8) suffered the loss.
Next up for the Firestorm will a doubleheader with San Diego Christian on Tuesday evening at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex. First pitch is slated for 4:00 pm.
