A Royal Sweep

Fullerton, CA- Needing to win at least two of three games to get back in the GSAC playoff race, Arizona Christian completed the series sweep over Hope International in a doubleheader on Saturday.  ACU won game one 4-2 and game two 9-4 in eight innings.

ACU strung together two runs in the fourth and two more in the ninth inning to complete the 4-2 victory. The Firestorm totaled six hits and played errorless baseball in the win.

Junior Eric Schwalbe led the bats of ACU going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and one run scored. Senior Matt Mara and Junior Trent Troncone also ended game one going 2-for-4.

Sophomore Trevor McGee earned the win on the mound throwing 7.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out nine.  McGee is now 2-3 on the year.  Junior Stephen Streltzoff and Junior River Carbone both saw action on the mound in relief.  Carbone earned his third save of the season.

Game two was a close battle throughout the game until the top of the eighth inning when the Firestorm (13-20, 8-15 GSAC) plated five runs on six hits and one error to complete the sweep of the Royals (16-20, 8-16 GSAC)

Sophomore Cohen Heckethorn went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and RBI.  Senior Dom Rodriguez went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI.  Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. and Senior Marco Castilla doubled in the contest.  Castilla drove in two.

Carbone earned the win in the game pitching in relief.  Sophomore Cam Sharp started on the mound tossing 3.1 innings allowing two runs on one hit.  Junior Steven Butts also saw action on the mound out of the bullpen.

ACU will return to action by traveling to Santa Barbara for a three-game GSAC series at Westmont College this week.  To avoid playing Easter weekend, the three game set will begin on Wednesday at 3:00 pm instead of Friday.
