Rough First Inning Leads to Non-Conference Loss

Surprise, AZ- ACU Baseball gave up six runs in the bottom half of the first inning leading to a 7-4 loss to Ottawa (AZ) at Surprise Stadium on Wednesday.  Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. homered in a contest for the 12th time this season- tying his single season record set last season.

The Firestorm (20-30) showed a late rally plating three runs in the seventh inning and one run in the eighth, but couldn't capitalize and complete the comeback against the Spirit (21-20).

Senior Michael Dunnebecke led ACU at the plate going 3-for-4 with a run, walk, and stolen base. Nunnally homered collecting two RBI.  Eric Schwalbe tripled and scored a run while Senior Marco Castilla doubled and drove in one.

Senior Tony Pins got the start on the mound tossing one inning allowing six runs on five hits.  Pins took the loss in game falling to 1-3 on the year.  Juniors Steven Butts, Baylor Giannini, Stephen Streltzoff, River Carbone, and Nunnally appeared in relief.  Giannini, Streltzoff, Carbone, and Nunnally all pitched one inning of scoreless relief.

ACU will conclude the 2018 season hosting non-conference opponent, Bethesda, in a three-game series beginning Friday afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
