Strong Second Half Propels Women's Basketball to Victory

Box Score

GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (5-1) picked up a 79-71 non-conference victory over the University of Benedictine at Mesa (2-1) Saturday afternoon inside the ACU Events Center.

Thoughts from Coach:

After the win, Head Coach Rusty Rogers said, "This game was a really great gauge for us to see if we're improving or not.  Having lost them recently, we used that as a barometer to see that we're getting better.  I know we had 27 turnovers, but our bench really picked us up today which has been a trademark of teams I've coached.  We didn't get that last time we played them so I feel like we're getting better, and hopefully we can keep this momentum going into the conference schedule."

Game Details:

In a competitive first half, both teams shot over .400 from the field.  ACU outrebounded the Redhawks, 26-21 and would enter the intermission with a four-point advantage, 43-39.  In the second half, ACU pulled away, leading by as many as 10 points en route to securing the 79-71 win.

The win also gave the Firestorm some revenge, having lost to BENU earlier this season on Dec. 11, 72-58.  The win moves ACU's all-time series advantage over the Redhawks to 5-3.
