Late Lead Evaporates in Loss at The Master's

Box Score

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Despite leading late, the Arizona Christian University women's basketball program (8-5; 2-3 GSAC) would fall to The Master's University (5-2; 3-0 GSAC), 66-56 on Friday afternoon.

Thoughts from Coach:

Following the loss, Rusty Rogers said, "Again, dropping a game that we had opportunities to win.  It was very frustrating to see us repeat mistakes in critical portions of the game.  We have not improved on building leads by playing with consistency within our system.  Leading by seven with seven minutes to play in the game and then proceeding to lose by 10 is frustrating.  We'll see how we respond tomorrow!"

Series Notes:

The loss moves ACU's all-time record against TMU to 6-14.  ACU defeated TMU earlier this season when the Mustangs were ranked No. 4 in the nation, 79-66 at home.

Playoff Picture:

The loss moves ACU to fourth place in the GSAC East standings, two games behind The Master's, which is currently 3-0 in GSAC play.  The Firestorm also trail San Diego Christian (1-1 GSAC) and William Jessup (1-1 GSAC), tied for second place in the conference standings.  OUAZ rounds out the bottom of the east with an 0-2 GSAC record.

Game Details:

The Firestorm trailed by just four points at halftime, 32-28 and came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Mustangs, 17-13 in the third quarter to tie things up entering the fourth.  ACU would continue its solid play in the fourth and led by as many as seven points with 7:53 to go in the game.

Despite the late offensive push from ACU, TMU would regain the lead with 3:43 left, and would close the final 3:43 on an 11-4 run to earn the win, 66-56.
