Childress's Double Double Helps Firestorm To Big Win Over Mount Marty

Box Score

Glendale, AZ. - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (9-4) continued their winning streak as they won their fourth game in a row by taking down Mount Marty (2-12) 67-44 on Monday evening at the ACU Events Center.

Thoughts from Coach:

After the game, Head Coach Rusty Rogers said, "Very encouraging to win the game by 23 points despite shooting so poorly! We found a new way to win and that's a credit to the growth of our team. We played solid defense, especially in the full court, and rebounded extremely well. I'm really excited about that as we have relied so heavily on our three point shooting in our prior victories."

Game Details:

The Firestorm led from start to finish but the game started out sloppy with both teams struggling from the floor. After the Lancers rallied to get within two the Firestorm closed the quarter with three points to extend their lead to 15-10 at the end of the first. The Firestorm looked to take control in the second as they raced out to a 12 point lead but the Lancers didn't give up as closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to narrow the Firestorm's advantage to 29-25 at halftime. The Firestorm seized control of the game in the third as they forced nine turnovers and outscored the Lancers 26-11 to take a commanding 55-35 lead at the end of the third. Both teams shooting woes continued in the fourth, but the Firestorm left no doubt about who would win the game as they prevailed 67-44 led by Olivia Childress's double double and 15 points from Alyssa Alvarez.
