ACU Moves to 4-2 with Shutout of OUAZ

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Led by third-year Head Coach Joe McDonald, the Arizona Christian University baseball team (4-2) earned a 14-0 non-conference shutout win over the Spirit of Ottawa University - Arizona (1-3) Tuesday night at Apollo High School.

 

Game/Series Notes:

 

The Firestorm now hold a 9-1 record against the Spirit in the two teams' last ten games played and the win now moves ACU's all-time series lead to 10-6.  The win also marks the Firestorm's first-ever shutout win against OUAZ.

 

The Game:

 

The contest was all-ACU, with the Firestorm out hitting the Spirit, 16-2.  OUAZ committed 10 errors in the contest, and after posting four multi-run innings, ACU would go on to earn the shutout victory, 14-0.

 

ACU starting pitcher Brett Aker (1-0) went five innings and allowed two hits while walking two and striking out five.  ACU's Brett Wagner, Alec Ivanoff, Randen Garrison, and Anthony Defrancesco each pitched one inning of relief and allowed no hits or runs while walking two and punching out four.

Thoughts from Coach: 

 

"This was a really great pitching performance from our staff.  Anytime you can throw up a zero on the board it means great pitching and defense.  Our bats were hot and it was another great family victory."

 

Up Next:

 

The Firestorm hit the road for a four-game, non-conference series at The Master's University between Feb. 5-6 in Santa Clarita, Calif.  Spectators will not be allowed.
