Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. - The ACU baseball team (27-17) dropped a non-conference matchup against OUAZ (17-15) 9-5 Thursday evening at Surprise Stadium.
Series/Game Notes:
After the loss, ACU is now 4-4 this season against the Spirit, and 13-10 in the all-time series.
The Game:
The Firestorm struck first with a single run in the second inning off of an RBI single from Robby Campillo, but the Spirit would answer and surpass ACU after plating five runs in the third inning.
ACU would go on to add four runs, but OUAZ would score four runs in the fourth inning and would go on to earn the non-conference victory, 9-5.
ACU starter Brett Aker (8-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing nine runs on 10 hits in 3-1/3 innings. ACU relievers Chase Martinez, Sergio Heguertty, and Roy Washburn combined to close the final 4-2/3 innings of the game and allowed five hits and no runs while striking out seven.
Offensively, Campillo went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Ramon Miranda and Justin Ramirez each added two hits and scored a run, Alec Ortiz added a pinch-hit RBI single.
