Inside the Box Score

The Firestorm came out in this game guns blazing, jumping out to a 29 point lead early in the 2nd quarter.  Gunn and Alvarez returned to form behind the three point arc, recording 27 points from three point shots between the two of them.  Payne made her presence known in the paint picking up a dozen boards, contributing to ACU's 13 second chance points.  While the Spirit were able to chisel the lead down to 6 points with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, clutch free throw shooting from Alvarez and Graciela Roybal helped the Firestorm hang on for their second conference victory.

Thoughts from Coach Rogers

"That was an interesting game! I was really excited about our big, early lead and I single-handedly killed our momentum with wholesale substitutions and playing girls out of position.  All and all, I was really proud of how we handled the adversity and prevailed.  Another positive step in the learning process for our entire team!"

Next for the Firestorm

The Firestorm will finish off this six-game homestand next Wednesday when they host the SAGU American Indian Warriors.  That game will be played in the ACU Events Center with tip off scheduled for 6:30 PM.  Following that game the Firestorm will head out west to Hawaii to compete in the Malika Classic, hosted by the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Roll Storm!
