Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Christian University baseball team (10-2) dropped their second game at the Firestorm Invitational 10-9 in a thriller against Midland University (2-0) at Tempe Diablo Fields on Friday afternoon in Tempe, AZ.

Series Notes:

With the loss the Firestorm fall to 2-2 against Midland.

The Game:

Eli Elliot got the start pitching 4 innings while allowing four runs, three earned on four hits while striking out four. Trey Tarver (3-1) took the loss in relief pitching 1 2/3 innings while allowing one run on two hits. Caleb Beach led the Firestorm's offense going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

It was a back and forth game from the beginning with both teams taking leads in this one. The Warriors got on the board first in the top of the first to make it 1-0. Manny Villa would then tie the game 1-1 in the bottom half with a sac fly. The Firestorm would then take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second as Caleb Beach dropped a single into center field to put the Firestorm up 2-1. The Warriors quickly answered though to retake the lead at 3-2 in the top of the third inning. The Firestorm would go back on top one inning later as it was Beach again ripping a two RBI single down the right field line to make it 4-3. The lead wouldn't last long as the Warriors tied the game in the fifth inning on a passed ball to make it 4-4.

The Warriors would then seize the momentum as they took a 7-4 lead in the sixth inning. The Firestorm didn't give up though as they fought back in the bottom half of the inning. Marques Titialli led off with a booming home run to left to make it 7-5. After a walk and a single put runners on the corners Kurtis Roberts came through with an RBI single to make it 7-6. The Firestorm would then tie the game 7-7 on a balk. Then with two outs Daniel Durazo lined a triple into left field as the Firestorm retook the lead at 8-7.

After a rare scoreless 7th inning the Warriors struck for three runs in the eighth to retake the lead at 10-8. The Firestorm didn't give up the fight as Justin Ramirez hit an inside the park home to cut the lead to 10-9 but unfortunately that would be as close as the Firestorm would get as they lost for only the second time this season.
