Campillo's Big Night Gets Firestorm Back On Winning Track

Waddell, AZ – The Arizona Christian University baseball team (20-16) snapped a four game losing streak as they ran away with an 11-6 victory over Benedictine Mesa (17-16) at Canyon View High School on Tuesday evening in Waddell, AZ.

Series Notes:

With the win the Firestorm improve their record against the Redhawks to 5-11 snapping an eight game losing streak against them .

The Game:

The Firestorm turned to the bullpen as Roy Washburn got the start and pitched 2 innings allowing just one hit while striking out one and walking two. Chase Martinez (3-2) picked up the win in relief allowing four runs, just one earned on three hits while striking out one and walking three. Robby Campillo led the Firestorm's offense going 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs and two home runs.

After Washburn pitched a scoreless first the Firestorm jumped all over the Redhawks in the bottom half of the inning. Justin Ramirez would walk to lead off the game and then after a single by Daniel Durazo, Robby Campillo crushed a three-run home run to center field to put the Firestorm ahead 3-0. The Firestorm would then load the bases with nobody out and chase the Redhawks starter from the game. They would then push across another run on a double play to increase their advantage to 4-0.

The Redhawks would fight back in the top of the third as they scored on a sac fly to pull within 4-1. The Firestorm had their own answer in the bottom half of the inning as Caleb Beach delivered an RBI groundout to increase the lead to 5-1. The Redhawks didn't give up though as they scored three more runs in the fourth inning to pull within 5-4.

The Firestorm once again answered as they put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Durazo would lead off the inning with a single and Campillo followed with a blast off the right field foul pole for his second home run of the game, which tied a single game Firestorm record and put the Firestorm on top 7-4. The Firestorm would then load the bases again and score two more runs as Kurtis Roberts forced an error to extend the lead to 9-4. The Redhawks wouldn't go away as they scored two runs in the top of the seventh to close within 9-6.

That was as close as they would get as Oliver Frias delivered a pinch hit two run home run over the left field wall to put the Firestorm up 11-6 in the eighth inning. Jordan Vickers then came in and shut the door in the ninth putting the Redhawks down 1-2-3 as the Firestorm snapped a four-game losing streak with an 11-6 victory.

Thoughts From Coach:

After the game Coach Joe McDonald stated, "I was really proud of our guys tonight as we have overcome a lot of adversity lately to be able to come out on the winning side of things against a very good opponent with some bats starting to get hot and used seven pitchers in a quality team win."

The Firestorm hit the road for more GSAC play as they take on No. 16 Hope International in a four game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, March 25 at 11:00 AM at Amerige Park in Fullerton, CA.
