Firestorm Can't Keep Up With Redhawks

Mesa, AZ – The Arizona Christian University baseball team (27-22) fell to Benedictine Mesa (24-20) 15-8 on Tuesday evening at Gene Autry Park in Mesa, AZ.

Series Notes:

With the loss the Firestorm's record against the Redhawks falls to 5-11.

The Game:

Griffin Henry got the start and took the loss pitching 4 1/3 innings while allowing eight runs, seven earned while walking two and striking out nine. Robby Campillo led the Firestorm's offense going 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

The Firestorm opened the scoring in the top of the first as Robby Campillo delivered an RBI single to make it 1-0. Two batters latter Collins ripped a double down the left field line to make it 2-0. The Firestorm would keep scoring in the second as Daniel Durazo drove an RBI single to center to make it 3-0. The Firestorm would then make it 4-0 as Manny Villa hit an RBI double down the line. Caleb Beach then delivered a sac fly in the third to push the Firestorm lead to 5-0. The Redhawks struck back though in the bottom half as they scored two runs to make it 5-2. Robby Campillo would put the Firestorm back up 6-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout.

The Redhawks would strike back in the bottom of the fifth as they put up seven runs to take a 9-6. They would then add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 12-6. The Firestorm didn't give up though and pulled two runs back through an error and an RBI single from Ramirez to make it 12-8. That would be as close as they would get though as the Redhawks scored three more runs as the Firestorm fell 15-8.

Villa: 2-for-4, RBI

Collins: 1-for-4, RBI

Beach: 1-for-4, RBI

The Firestorm continue their season as they head to Tempe, AZ to take on Park-Gilbert in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 13 beginning at 5:00pm Arizona time at Tempe Diablo Field #1.
