One Run Loss Twice In GSAC Championships

Irvine, Calif.- On the opening day of the GSAC Championships, Arizona Christian came up a run short in both of their two games.  The two losses end the season for the Firestorm.

Inside Game One

  • Smith locked up in a pitcher's dual with the GSAC Pitcher of the Year
  • The Firestorm had runners on base in five of the seven innings but could not score
  • Smith had a couple of 1-2-3 innings
  • The only run of the game came in the fourth after an error extended the inning

Inside Game Two

  • After four complete innings, the teams remained tie at 0-0
  • Miles sent a single back up the middle to plate Buckley and give ACU a 1-0 cushion in the fifth
  • But the Spirit scored four in the bottom of the inning
  • In the top of the sixth, Fryklund doubled to bring home Anderson
  • Fogleman followed with a single to score Fryklund
  • ACU left the bases loaded to end the inning
  • Fryklund faced just three batters in seventh thanks to a double play
  • With Kirsten Garcia representing the final chance, she drove a ball to deep center but the ball was caught at the fence

"It is always hard to end a season, but I am proud of the way our team competed today.  Savannah shined through 10 innings of one run softball.  Our offense has struggled to get timely hits down the stretch, but overall a good season that has come to an end."
