ACU MBB Looks To Secure First Place In GSAC

Head Coach Jeff Rutter earned career win 250 on Saturday
Glendale, Ariz.- On Thursday, Arizona Christian Men's Basketball will make their last regular season road trip to California to play Jessup University and Menlo College.  A win on Thursday will guarantee at least a share of the regular season GSAC championship for the Firestorm.

"Another big week ahead.  Jessup and Menlo are both playing well and are very talented.  Taking care of the ball and rebounding are so crucial to being successful on the road and we need to keep focusing on improvement in those areas."

The Firestorm have moved up to number two in the NAIA national ranking while they remain the top spot in the GSAC conference. The Firestorm are 21-4 overall and 12-3 in conference after their commanding victory on Saturday over Life Pacific 96 -68.  The win gave Jeff Rutter win number 250 of his career- all as the ACU head coach.  Senior Bryce Davis led ACU with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Trent Hudgens added 14 points of his own.  Dennis Flowers III added 10 points 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Off the bench, James Berry III chipped in 13 points and KeyVaughn Williams contributed 4 points and 5 assists.  On Thursday, ACU defends its number one spot in GSAC and back-to-back GSAC Conference championships.

Series Notes
The Firestorm have held the upper hand against the Warriors as they go into the contest with a 12 game winning streak in their favor.
 
When challenging the Oaks, Arizona Christian is down 7-6 in the series.  Menlo is 5-2 when defending home court against the Firestorm.
 
Jessup
The Warriors (15-9, 9-5 GSAC) have won their last five games after clenching a close game against Menlo on Saturday 76-73.  Cash Williams led the scoring by dropping in 22 points to pair with nine assists. Xavier Lovelace added 15 points and seven rebounds in the win.  Myles Corey was the third player in double-figures- pairing 11 points with eight boards.
 
Menlo
The Oaks (16-8, 7-7 GSAC) suffered a crushing defeat after making a second-half comeback being down 19 points to Jessup on Saturday, finishing behind 76-73.  Brayden Luli led the Oaks with 14 points.  Corey Le'aupepe secured a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
