Glendale, Ariz.- Despite three matches going to super tiebreaks, Arizona Christian handled OUAZ on Saturday afternoon.  The Firestorm celebrated their seniors- David Maas and Martin Thomas- before the match.

• The Firestorm came out swinging as they won all three doubles matches
• In singles play, Thomas was leading in the first set when his opponent needed to retire
• Jonas Wand won the first completed singles match on court two
• Josh Jones was finished right behind Wand as he also earned the "W" in straight sets to lock up the team victory
• The last three matches went to super tiebreaks with the Spirit winning on five
• Gustavo Montoya rolled through his "speed set" to the tune of 10-3 for the win
• In the last match of the day, Hugo Abril needed an extra game to win the first set, dropped the second, and just edged out his OUAZ foe 11-9

 
Thoughts from Coach Carlisle                                                            
"It was not our sharpest match today, but we will certainly take the win after a couple weeks off, especially against OUAZ.  We finally got a doubles point which made a big difference, and after getting the quick point at number four I think we really started putting the pressure on.  We will need to be a lot better next week against Hope International and Westcliff, but the guys know that and I know they will come out next week ready to put in the work.  It is always nice to send the seniors out with a win and I am proud of the guys for getting it done today."

Next weekend, the Firestorm will be in Orange County (Calif.) to face Hope International and Westcliff.  Friday's match against Hope International will be played at the Fullerton Tennis Center at 12:00 pm
