Inside the Box Score

Game one of today's double header was not an accurate representation of the ACU style of play so far this season.  After a slurry of errors in the field and free passes given to San Diego hitters, the Firestorm found themselves on the wrong end of a sizeable deficit.  The ACU hitters put up a good effort on the offensive front, highlighted by a Justin Ramirez single to claim the all-time hits record at ACU in the 2nd inning.  Ultimately that effort fell short after a three run 9th inning and ACU couldn't secure the sweep.  Game 2 was not counted as a GSAC contest, but that didn't stop the Firestorm hitters from continuing to crush the baseball.   Porchas, Titialii, and Ivy all collected extra base hits, with Porchas and Ivy each bringing in two runs with their opposite field doubles.  Riley Quinton made his first start of the season, and immediately made his presence known.  Quinton faced the minimum number of hitters and only allowed two hits on the night.  He threw a total of 68 pitches through 7 innings en route to the complete game shutout.

Thoughts from Coach McDonald:

"It was a really special day being able to honor coach Osterode and his career as well as watching Justin Ramirez break the all time his record. The pitching performance from Riley Quinton tonight was beyond special to face the minimum amount of hitters to help us respond and rebound from a first game loss today.  Special day for sure."

Next for the Firestorm

The Firestorm will head out on the road for the foreseeable future, beginning with a midweek matchup with Embry-Riddle this Tuesday in Prescott. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM on April 4th.  Following two GSAC series', ACU will return to Glendale High School on April 18th to host Benedictine-Mesa.
