Firestorm Drop Home Duals Under The Lights

Glendale, Ariz.- In their first home duals of the 2023-24 season, the Firestorm could not overcome stiff Cascade competition. Nineteenth-ranked Eastern Oregon downed ACU 32-10 in the opening showdown before RV Vanguard edged the host Firestorm 28-17.

The first five weight classes dealt the most damage to ACU's chances, as they lost eight of 10 matches between the two duals. 

Kaiden Cisneros and Zion Longsine each won their respective matches to give the Firestorm a 2-0 record in the 285-lb. weight class. Carlo Castagnaro was the lone undefeated wrestler of the night, outscoring his opponents 26-5. 

Of note, ACU Wrestling competed under a spotlight for the first time since Firestorm Recreation Center became their home in 2022.

"We opened up home competition in the FRC in an amazing environment that we are excited to continue here in the future," Coach Butterfield said. "The spotlight and atmosphere were a really great way to honor the hard work our guys put in on a daily basis. Even though the duals did not go our way in the long run, we are consistently pushing the pace in the third periods and wrestling to the final whistle."
