The Firestorm Stay In The Fight

Caldwell, Idaho - The Firestorm didn't have enough gas to stop the Yotes. The Firestorm's defense had another rough first half, giving up 28 points. ACU's secondary gave up 405 yards passing with 5 touchdowns. 

Arizona Christian's offense moved the ball well throughout the game. The offense kept the Firestorm in the fight. Quarterbacks Johnny Herrera and Beau Devens had the offense rolling throughout the game. Freshman running back/receiver Andrew Trapp had a huge impact on the run game to try to keep ACU in the game at times. ACU's receivers made huge catches to keep the drive going throughout the game.  Senior receiver/running back Jonah Leon was a key component in the run game as well. 

With the struggles that the secondary faced, The defense did have some sparks throughout the game. Senior Safety Jordan Francis recorded 7 tackles, Junior Ngianni Ceriser had 6 tackles and a forced fumble and Senior linebacker Travis Combs recorded 5 tackles.

  • With 8:38 in the first quarter, ACU - Andrew Trapp with a 11 yard run (Nestor Higuera kick), in a 13 play drive for 75 yards, 7-0 Firestorm
  • Minutes later, CI - Jase Applebee catches a 42 yard pass from Andy Peters (William Botch kick), in a 5 play drive that took 75 yards to tie up game 7-7

  • Minutes Later in the third, CI - John Kreps catches a 26 yard pass from  Andy Peters (William Botch  kick) that only took 4 plays for 69 yards to extend the lead 14-42 Yotes
  • ACU - Trent Olson catches a 17 yard pass from Johnny Herrera (Nestor Higuera kick failed) it was a 15 play drive for 68 yards to close the deficit 20-42 Yotes
  • Early in the fourth quarter, CI -  In a 1 play drive, Caden Young runs in a 73 yard touchdown (William Botch kick, that makes it 20-49 Yotes.
  • With 6:53 in the fourth, CI - William Botch kicks a 21 yard field goal in a 6 play drive for 61 yards, 20-52 Yotes

Thoughts From Coach Bowen
"We played them even except for the second quarter. But I'm still proud of the way the guys fought, especially after losing players in the first quarter to injuries. There was no quit in the Firestorm."
