All Comes Down To Serving, Firestorm Lose in Five

Irvine, Calif.- With most other stats being basically equal, serving was the difference in Saturday's match between Arizona Christian and Westcliff.  The Warriors rattled off 17 service aces versus just one for the Firestorm.

  • Scott and Rolland delivered kills for the two points of the match and ACU stayed in front the entire first set
  • Set two was entirely different as the teams exchanged blows and ACU was ahead 10-8
  • But the Warriors used a 7-0 run to take control of the set
  • WU scored the first four points (two on aces) of the the third set and held as large as an eight point lead six times
  • However down 22-15, ACU would trim the deficit to just two warding off four set points
  • Korbin Torres started the comeback bid by delivering a kill, block, kill combo in a matter of four points
  • Westcliff opened the fourth set with a point
  • Arizona Christian rolled through a 10-0 run (Koch- two kills)
  • The Warriors clawed all the way back to force ties of 20-20 and 21-21
  • Kills by Knudsen, Torres, and Scott followed by a Torres block gave ACU the set win
  • Set five saw WU open with a 5-0 lead (three aces) and ACU never recovered
  • Westcliff's Gabriel Pizza served up 11 aces and 16 kills against ACU
